Hutchinson Man Killed
William K. Raney, 36, Hutchinson, was killed instantly Wednesday when his
semi-trailer careened down La Veta pass and slammed into a tree 25 miles west of
Walsenburg, Colo.
The state highway patrol said the brakes on his trailer, which was loaded
with potatoes, apparently went out as Raney came down the pass. The truck
careened out of control for about a mile before hitting the tree. The truck was
demolished.
Raney was thrown from the cab. He suffered multiple fractures and internal
injuries.
An employe of Scott Truck Lines, he had left Hutchinson Monday for Colorado
and was returning with a load of potatoes.
Mr. Raney was born Oct. 15, 1915, at Preston. He moved to Hutchinson in
1948.
Survivors are a son, William, Fresno, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Maude Raney,
819 North Plum; a brother, F.E. Raney, 819 North Plum.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Elliott and Gard chapel in
Hutchinson and at 2:30 p.m. at the Ayres-Calbeck funeral home in Pratt. Burial
will be in Pratt cemetery.
Mr. Raney had planned to be married Saturday to Ruby Beemer, 1906 North
Monroe.
