Arthur Hamilton Allen, 82 of Mission, Kans., formerly of Centralia, Mo., passed away Oct. 4, 2012.
Visitation will be at Fenton Funeral Chapel, Centralia, Mo., Saturday, Oct. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at First Baptist Church, Centralia.
Interment with Mili-tary Honors will be held at Rothville Cemetery, Rothville. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, Centralia, or to the Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Allen was born Dec. 3, 1928 in Rothville, Mo., the son of Arthur Lee and Rosa (Hamilton) Allen.
He graduated from Rothville High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea. After his tour of duty he enrolled at William Jewell College on the G.I. Bill and studied there for two years. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris J. Ball on Aug. 21, 1949. He was recalled to the military and entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Texas. After his tour in the Air Force, he and Doris finished their college educations at the University of Missouri. Upon graduation, Art accepted a marketing analyst position with A.B. Chance Co. in Centralia, Mo. He spent the next 39 years at A.B. Chance Co. in a variety of positions ending with Vice President of Administration, retiring in 1993. After his official retirement, Art spent the next 10 years working with the Chance Foundation. Art and Doris were very loyal and active members of the Centralia and mid-Missouri communities. Specifically, Art was a long-time president of the Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver Award and the Good Shepherd Award. He was also a trustee of Southwest Baptist University, where he received an honorary doctorate degree in 1993, an active member of Rotary International, including being a regional governor and Paul West Fellow; deacon of the First Baptist Church Centralia, and numerous other volunteer activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Francis Kendall and Lee Hamilton.
