James "Chat" Hogan was born November 8, 1890 in Willow Grove, Clay County, Tennessee to Will C Hogan and Leeann (Short) Hogan.
He eloped with Eunice Clara Hogan in 1916. In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and went on to serve in France during WWI. After returning to the states he joined his wife in Greer County, Oklahoma. They were tenant/cotton farmers. In the early 1940's they relocated to San Diego to help in the war effort. After the war they returned to settle in Mangum, Oklahoma.
