Herbert L. Allen, 79, of Murphy died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his residence. He was a native of Erie, PA, but had lived in St. Petersburg, FL before moving to Murphy in February 2006. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Air Force. He was an engineer with Florida Power Corporation, retiring in 1991 after 20 years. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Murphy First Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Lawrence and Mildred Hunt Allen.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Walker Allen; a daughter, Terri Hensley and husband, Jason of Buford, GA; a son, Todd L. Allen and wife, Mary of the Philippines; a brother, Larry Allen and wife, Madeline of Denver, CO; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 1 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. Jack Carter and Tom Leatherwood officiating. Interment was held at 1:30 PM Friday in the Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Herbert L. Allen to World Vision, PO Box 70200, Tacoma, WA 98481-0200 or at www.worldvision.org.
