Harry, age 93, died unexpectedly Saturday in his home. He was born the son of Emil & Helene (Steindorf) Abendroth. Harry graduated from Reeseville High in 1933. Harry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 103rd Infantry Division from 1941-1946, was the recipient of the Bronze Star and continued serving in the Army Reserve until 1962. On June 18, 1944, Harry was united in marriage with Dorothy Blake in Fort Howze, TX. Harry pursued more education and received his B.A. from Lawrence College in 1949 and his M.A. in geology from the UW-Madison in 1953. Prior to his retirement in 1979, Harry was employed as an exploration geologist for Union Carbide for 27 years. During his career, Harry lived in Appleton and Oregon, Wis., South Africa, India, Australia, Long Island, N.Y., Wausau, and then settled in Madison in 1965. Harry spent his retirement being active in WREA, the Golden Kiwanis and the Lowell VFW. Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on July 2, 2004; and his brothers, Rueben and Wallace. A Celebration of Harry's Life was held Cress Funeral Home. Military honors were accorded by the Lowell VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Lawrence University Scholarship Fund or the UW-Madison Geology Dept.
