Daniel C Birtwell, 68. a Shingle Springs resident, died Oct. 21 He was
born on Feb 15, 1932, in the Philippines
Mr Birtwell was born in the Philippines to U.S. Navy patents. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict in the 1930s as a member of the underwater demolition team, the Navy Seals. He began a career in law enforcement in Mountain View before moving to El Dorado County in 1963. He briefly worked for Aerojet and the El Dorado County's Sheriff's Department. Then, he worked for the District Attorney's office and retired as Chief Investigator in 1986. He was active in community affairs for many years, serving as a director and a volunteer for the Shingle Springs Fire Department. He also served as a commissioner with the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Placerville Elks Lodge No. 1712 and the International Police Association. He loved traveling and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, June, his daughters, Cathe Chatterton of Sacramento and Susan Fry of Shingle Springs, his sons, Tom Birtwell of Sacramento and Gary Birtwell of San Diego, his brother, Charles Birtwell of Truckee, his sister, Eleanor McCoy of C. Bay, six grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Green Valley Mortuary with the Rev.Kent McNair from Faith Episcopal
Church officiating. Interment is at Green Valley Cemetery.
