Son of Abel Brown and Clara Stewart;

Husband of Mattie (or Martha) Strycker (Daughter of Robert Strycker and Sarah Elizabeth Cantwell).

Father of Edna Marie Brown Walmsely, Nellie E. Brown, and Clara Blanche Brown.

After Asa's death, Mattie Stricker married Robert M. Reed. Asa's Daughters, per the Federal Census records, show that Mattie had her four daughters and one son by Asa being raised by others. In the 1920's Census, this is particularly jarring.

Edna is listed as the adopted daughter of James and Florence Lexington. Nellie is listed as a "companion" for Joseph and Elizabeth Long. Clara is listed as "Blanche" and is being raised by her Dad's, Asa's, brother James and his Wife.

What is strange about this is that in the 1920's Census for Mattie, she is raising her second Husband's children from his previous marriage and not her three Daughters.

The children of Asa and Martha were:

Edna Marie Brown Walmsley;

Nellie E. Brown Oller;

Clara Blanche Brown (can not determined whether she married or not as of 4/15/2012);

Grace Mae Brown Ellis; and, Fearl Arthur Brown (married to Marie Suter).

These children were living in the 1920's Census, either with Asa's brothers or sisters or they were "companions" to elderly persons. The most startling thing is that NONE of these children were living with each other. They were broken apart.
