Margaret Luella Smith was the biological Daughter of Edward Jones Smith and Laurena Budgett. According to Laurena's application for a marriage license to her fourth husband in 1942 in Washington County, Ohio, Edward and Laurena were divorced in January of 1926. She is NOT the biological Daughter of Nellie Jane Hill, Edward's second wife, whom he married in 1928.
Margaret Luella Smith was raised, for some reason, by her father and her step-mother while her siblings Betty Jane Smith (who married Harold Farley in Washington County, Ohio in 1938) and William H. Smith (who can not be accounted for after the 1930's Census) were not. Margaret's siblings were raised primarily by their biological mother, Laurena Budgett and a series (four in all) of husbands. They are noted in the 1930's Census as Betty Dodson and William H. Dodson, the ADOPTED children of Lorena's second husband Howard J. Dodson of Hamilton County, Ohio. Lorena later married Russell Caldwell (1936 in Wheeling, West Virginia) and then Lafayette Earl Robertson (known as "Lockett") on May 1, 1942 in Washington County, Ohio. The last that Lorena can be accounted for is in a 1950 City Directory of Evansville, Indiana, where she is, presumably, living with her fourth Husband ... or perhaps not, as in later versions of this directory, Lockett is listed, but Lorena is not with him.
It is unclear where Margaret's siblings are buried at this time (October 23, 2012). Betty's husband is listed as married to another woman in a 1952 City Directory and William can not be found.
Margaret married Ralph Cody Dieringer, son of Ralph Cornelius Dieringer and Myrtle Anna Wendling, on October 14, 1943 in Ohio County, West Virginia. As far as can be accounted (via a family website), only two children were born, Richard Cody Dieringer, Jr., and a female child.
