Illinois National Guardsman who was called to federal service on November 25, 1940. He took part in the Bataan Death March and was a Japanese POW at Camp O'Donnell and Cabanatuan in the Philippines Islands. He died when the Arisan Maru was sunk by an American submarine in the South China Sea. He was one of 1803 Prisoners of War on the ship. Since the Japanese refused to rescue the POWs, only nine POWs survived the sinking.
