Harvey married Sarah D. Hutches on 22 April 1847.
He enlisted as a Private in Co. "B", 38th North Carolina Infantry, on 19 April 1862. He was listed as a resident of Yadkin County. He died at General Hospital #21 (also known as the Maryland Hospital or Gwathmey Hospital). Cause of death: "variola" (smallpox).
The Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery, with the assistance of Adams descendant David Falkenstein, arranged for creation of a government marker, which was placed on 24 August 2012.
