My father came from humble beginnings. He had four brothers. He served in WWII as a squad leader in the invasion of Normandy, D-Day. He received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf clusters for wounds received during combat operations in France. After the war he spent his life raising his four children and primarily working as a long-haul transport driver from Chicago to points west. He died while on a trip, away from his family he loved very much.
