William Bursey was born in Old Perlican, Newfoundland (then an English colony) to Stephen(b.1871-d.?) & Lydia(nee Stanford b.1861-d.1894) Bursey.
William was the lighthousekeeper on Old Perlican Island. In 1931, the light was changed from kerosene to gas thus eliminating the need for the light keeper to live on the island full-time.
William married Bertha Martin (b.?-d.1928) in 1919 and had 3 children, Monica, Lucy & Graham (who was killed while serving in the Royal Navy during WWII, at age 21). 2 years after the death of his first wife, William later married Ethel Tryphena "Triffie" Hiscock in 1930; William and Triffie raised 4 children of their own, Clyde, Helen (who died at age 15), Adelaide & Graham.
William served in both World Wars I & II, earning him the nick-name locally of "War-Will".
William died on the 25 of June 1967, and is buried next to his second wife, Triffie.

As i was named for his name-sake, even though i did'nt have a chance to me him i often think of HIM. but ONE DAY we'll meet in Heaven. then we'll set down and talk awhile !! will always wonder about you !!!
