COSHOCTON: V. Leonard Farmer, 87, of Coshocton, passed away at home on Thursday, August 6, 2009.
Leonard was born on July 18, 1922 in Coshocton to the late George and Nellie (Stiner) Farmer. He graduated from Coshocton High School in 1941 and joined the United States Army Air Force. He was a Sergeant in the 60th Bomb Squadron of the 39th Bomb Group stationed on Guam and flew many missions over Japan. He retired from Cyclops in 1982 after 23 years. Leonard was a member of Keene United Methodist Church and Keene Hill Grange.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Lois (Sturtz) Farmer, Leonard is survived by his three sons, Gary (Charlotte) Farmer of Cambridge, Ohio, Larry (Cindy) Farmer of Strasburg, Ohio, Terry (Paula) Farmer of Mechanicsville, VA; and one daughter, Julie (Don) Pepper of Coshocton, Ohio; also surviving are eleven grandsons, Aaron, Ted, Len, Alan, Matthew, Brian, Nicholas and Andrew Farmer, Zane, Bryce and Reas Pepper; and one granddaughter, Aarica Farmer; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Richard (Evelyn) Sturtz of Thornville, Ohio. A brother, Jack Farmer, preceded him in death.
Per his wishes, his body was donated to the Willed Body Program of the Ohio University's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio for research. Cremation will follow with a private family memorial service to be held at a later date.
