Jacob Shonk was my third great grandfather. He was born to John Shank and Maria Royer in Washington Twp., Franklin CO, PA and was the third of 10 children. His grandparents, John Shank & Magdalena Kauffman lived just over the state line in Washington CO, Maryland. As it turns out they were neighbors to Jacob's future in-laws, Rudolph Flenner and Magdalena Kershner. Jacob followed Rudolph's son George Flenner to Ohio at about 1830, where he married George's daughter Susannah J. Flenner on Jan 9, 1834 in Hamilton, Butler, Ohio. They moved to Clark CO, IL when their oldest son, George Flenner Shonk was about 15 years of age, making their move around 1849.
Jacob & Susannah were the parents of George F. Shonk, Martin B. Shonk, Henry William Shonk, David P. Shonk, Albert Addison Shonk & Hannah Jane Shonk. All of the boys were born in Hamilton, Butler, Ohio, while Hannah was born in Clark, IL. in 1850.
