SSG Richard Lee Allen was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SSG Allen served our country until February 7th in Dinh Toung, South Vietnam. He was 24 years old and was married. It was reported that He was killed by a hostile exploding artillery round. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, on June 6th, 1945. His body was recovered. SSG Allen is on panel 33W, line 075 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 6 years.
He is the husband of Mrs Johnnie L Allen, 5226 Palo Verde Circle, Fayetteville, NC 28304. He is the Son of Mr and Mrs William H Allen, Route 2, box 543, Daytona Beach, Florida 32019.
SSG Richard Lee Allen served as a Staff Sergeant with Alpha Company, 86th Engineer Battalion, 45th Engineer Group, 18th Engineer Brigade, USARV.
He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat wounds, The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medals), The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
