Ebenezer was the third of 11 children born to Allen and Elizabeth Sweetin Riley. He married Mary Arnold in 1852 in Kentucky. They had 7 children--Elizabeth, John, Allen, George, Moses, Hannah and Mary--all born in Jennings Cnty, Indiana. When Mary died in 1870, Ebenezer moved to Thorntown, Indiana, and in 1872, he married Eunise Gosset. They had one son, Thomas. Eunise died in 1873 and Ebenezer married Margaret Elza, a widow with 2 children, in Montgomery Cnty, in 1875. She died in 1915. At the age of 28, Ebenezer enlisted in the Army in White Cnty, Indiana, on 22 August 1862. He was a Private in Company F, 99th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers, and served during the Civil War. He was mustered out 5 June 1865.
Ebenezer was a farmer all of his life. He died of heart trouble.
