D.W Rockefeller dies Sunday in Hospital
D. W. (Rocky) Rockefeller, 55, of 1310 Franklin Street, died late 7:45 Sunday evening at Graham hospital where he had been a patient since 10 o'clock Sunday morning. Although his death was quite sudden, he had been in failing health the past several years.
The son of the late Eli Hosea and Anna Dell Haggerty Rockfeller, he was born on December 16, 1911 in Keokuk where he had lived all his life.
He married Bertha Rhode on March 31, 1934 at Lewistown, Illinois. She survives.
Mr. Rockefeller was a fireman for the Santa Fe Railroad for the past 24 years.
He entered the U.S. Navy in World War II on February 22, 1944 in Keokuk and was discharged on November 26, 1945 at U.S. Navy Personnel Separation Center, Minneapolis, Minn.
He was the owner and operator Jerry's 15 Hamburgers.
He was a member of the Trinity Methodist church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Surviving besides his wife are three sisters. Mrs. Lucille Pannell and Mrs. Clara Jameson both of Keokuk and Mrs. Clayton R (Gladyce) Mars of Minneapolis, Minn., a brother Robert Rockefeller of Thousand Oaks, California, 2 aunts, Mrs. Corneal Kentfield of Keokuk and Mrs. Pearl Hunter of Burlington, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Kenneth Rockefeller.
Memorial service will be held at the Schmidt Memorial Home at a time to be announced later.
Eagles will have a service at a time to be announced later.
