ALLARI, Nell
July 12, 2011
----------------
Nell Marie Allari Died peacefully on July 5 at home at Highland Spring of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. She was 98. She was born Nell Marie Goforth on January 18, 1913, the second of five children born to Ida Cox Goforth and Edward Lowery Goforth of Eldorado, Illinois. Her father worked as a coal miner, and her parents later owned and operated a small cafe. To help with the family's finances, Nell quit school early and went to work cooking and cleaning in a doctor's household; but she always wanted to finish high school, so as an adult she graduated by completing a correspondence course. A brief first marriage ended in Nevada. Nell stayed on and was supporting herself by working in a restaurant when she met San Francisco native Everett C. Allari, who had mining interests in the area. They married in 1943, and in 1945 Nell gave birth to their son, Ronald. She also became a mother to Robert, Everett's son by his first marriage. The couple raised their family in Patterson, Stockton, and Redwood City, California. Everett was a successful businessman who eventually retired as vice president and treasurer of Williams and Burrows Inc., general contractors in Belmont. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shrine member, and Nell shared his interest by becoming a member of the Eastern Star. Everett died of Alzheimer's disease in 1982 in Pacific Grove, California, where he and Nell had lived in retirement. Nell was active in the community and lived there for twenty more years before moving to Fort Thomas, Kentucky to be close to her son Ron. She continued to enjoy good health into her nineties. She was an avid bowler, and friends who knew this might like to think that now when they hear thunder, Nell is bowling strikes in heaven! She is survived by a sister, Laura (Kay) Link; son Robert Everett and his wife Nancy of Corona Del Mar, California; son Ronald Lee and wife Cheryl of Alexandria, Kentucky; and six grandchildren: Chanelle Allari Huesing, Tiffany Keeton, Tammy Keen, Troy Allari, Dawn Marie Omodt, and Wendy Allari. Funeral services will be held in Kentucky on July 8th. On July 11th, visitation will be at the Fireside Chapel of Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, California beginning at 12:30 p.m. and followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Memorial gifts can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
