Robert Dan Addington, age 72 of Winnfield, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008.

Mr. Addington is the son of the late John Addington and the late Norene Jones Addington. He is survived by his wife. of 46 years, Carolyn Carpenter Addington. one daughter: Janna Addington Harrel and her husband Al of Winnfield, two grandchildren: Caroline Michelle Harrel and Alison Lynn Harrel, and two step-grandchildren: Christine Elizabeth Harrel and Nicholas Tracy Harrel. Mr. Addington is also survived by three sisters: Alice Gorum of Alexandria, Sonya Thompson of Oakdale, and Deborah Howell of Sieper and two nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Addington was retired from the Louisiana National Guard as a Command Sgt. Major having served over 40 years. He also served as the Commandant of the Louisiana Military Academy. During his years of service he received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Award, Army Achievement Medal, Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.

Funeral services for Mr. Addington will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rayford Higgs officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sanders Chapel Cemetery near Calvin. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Dustin Thompson, Ryan Gorum, Kirk Bordelon, Russell Barton, Phillip Wilkerson, Rusty Barton, Donnie Maxey, Mike Procell, James Eugene Carpenter, Buddy Ferrand.
