Sylvester was a 16-year resident of Apple Valley. Born in Praco, Ala. He was the son of James Blue and Mary Pearl Parker. During his early years, Sylvester's family moved to West Virginia, where he enjoyed listening to his dad sing baritone with the gospel quartet group that traveled throughout West Virginia and the eastern United States. Sylvester's singing career began at the age of 5 when his grandmother would have him sing special songs during the church services. At the age of 15, Sylvester's family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he attended John Adams High School and was the baritone/tenor with the high school quartet. After graduation from high school he was accepted into the Cleveland Conservatory of Music. While attending college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as military advisor. Even in the military, his talents were known among the officers. He would often sing for the generals parties and special events. After completeing his time in the Army, Sylvester returned to college to complete his degree. He was the music and choir director for the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ, where he met his wife, Sylvia, who sang in the choir. They were married July 24, 1975. Sylvia was truly a helpmate to him, supporting and encouraging him as they traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, England and Korea.
