From The Adams Review, 1903:
Popejoy Man Sawed Neck With Barb Wire and Then Strangled Himself in Tree.
The Barb Wire Route.
Albert Lea, Minn., Jan. 20. - Andrew Alvenson was found dead in a pasture near here yesterday. He had relations in Popejoy, Iowa. It was a case of suicide, as seven different places were found where he had sawed his neck on a barb wire fence. Finding this process too slow, he went to a small tree and pulling the limbs apart fitting one of them into the wound and with the other at the back of his neck, strangled himself.
