Arthella Moosman Basinger 1931 ~ 2004
Arthella Moosman Basinger passed away May 15, 2004 of causes incident to a three-year struggle with Ovarian cancer, which metastasized into brain tumors.

Arthella was born April 13, 1931 in Benson, Utah to Welborn Moosman and Elsie May Rogers. She married John A. Basinger, Jr. May 4, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. They met and were residing in Denver, Colorado at the time.

She was an active member of the LDS Church. She loved singing and has performed with ward and stake choirs since her first experience in singing with the Mink Creek (Idaho) youth choir as the first group to perform at the dedication of the Idaho Falls Temple. She had received the YWMIA Golden Gleaner award; and all levels of the Relief Society Pursuit of Excellence awards. She has been awarded blue ribbons for her quilts and bedspreads by both the Ramsey County (MN) and the Minnesota State Fairs. She had influenced many girls through the YWMIA over a 50-year time span serving as president (Idaho Falls and St. Paul MN), camp director, and canoeing instructor. She loved working with her sisters in the Relief Society, having served as visiting teacher in Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, and Utah for over 50 years, and having achieved a record of never missing one visit in any month when she was assigned as a teacher. She served as ward Relief Society president in Idaho Falls, and for 10 years as stake Relief Society president of the Minnesota Stake. She was the first Work-Day leader in the then-new Minnesota Stake. She graduated from the Preston (ID) Seminary, and then taught early morning seminary for three years, helping establish the program in St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN. She was the seminary supervisor in the St. Paul/Mpls - western Wisconsin area for six years. She taught Sunday school for over a 17-year period, again primarily to teen-age youth. She was the first Employment Director in the St. Paul Stake, serving in that position for six years before becoming the Regional Employment Manager for the StP, Mpls, Duluth, Anoka, Rochester (MN) and Eau Claire (WI) area. She and her husband served a mission in Sendai, Japan. She served as visiting teacher, and with her husband was Wasatch Stake Welfare Specialist since moving to Utah.

She had varied work experience. Before marriage she worked with Western Union as PBX operator and instructor and with Phillips Petroleum in the Denver Geological and Exploration Division as an oil scout coordinator. After raising her family she worked as a secretary, as manager of a tax consulting office and business manager for a dental office. She was also self-employed as a partner in an orchid raising business.

She enjoyed the outdoors and participated in weeklong trips through the Minnesota Boundary Waters Canoe area for several years. She enjoyed writing and participated in several writers' clubs. She wrote, printed and published four volumes of family history. She also wrote a 250-page printed and published history of the St. Paul Minnesota Stake Relief Society. She enjoyed travel and had visited many areas within the United States mainland and Hawaii as well as having traveled to Mexico, (Cancun and La Paz), Ecuador, France, Spain, Italy, England, Scotland, and Japan.

Arthella is survived by her loving husband; five children, Gaylanne (Jerry F.) Clark, Ammon, ID, John A. (Adell Peterson), Waukesha, WI, David W. (Jannette Coleman), Vacaville, CA, Ramona (Rodney) Braunberger, Bountiful, UT, Norine (Adam C.) Hansen, Great Meadows N.J; 15 grandsons; nine granddaughters; one great-grandson; seven brothers; three sisters; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Arthella will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Wasatch 8thWard, 3625 East Dover Hill Dr. (7660 South), where friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment, Mt. View Memorial Estates Cemetery. Funeral Directors, The Holbrook Mortuary.
