Jean Ann Abts
FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. - Jean Ann Abts, 81, of Fountain City died early Tuesday morning at Lake Winona Manor with her loving family at her side.
She was born June 29, 1929, in Fountain City, a daughter of Alvin and Frieda (Knecht) Abts.
Jean attended Fountain City Schools, graduating from Fountain City High School.
On Feb. 17, 1947, Jean was united in marriage to Lloyd Abts at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fountain City; and to this union three children were born. Lloyd preceded Jean in death in June 1974.
Jean had several different employers, most notably Wally's Supper Club in Fountain City, Kalua Club, and St. Michael's Lutheran Home as a nurses aide. Her longest employment was at the Winona Knitting Mills, retiring in the 1990s.
She was a faithful and active member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Fountain City.
Jean will be remembered for her exceptional homemade baking, especially her fresh baked apple pies with the flakiest most wonderful crust ever.
Jean was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Packers, Badgers, watching golf and attending her family's high school athletics events.
She also enjoyed cross stitching. Many of her cross stitching creations will be cherished by her family forever.
What Jean will be remembered for mostly is her deep love and devotion for her entire family, especially her great-grandchildren, whom she would share all the new pictures of with those going to the bank in Fountain City, one of her favorite destinations in town.
Jean will be deeply and sadly missed by her three children, Rich Abts of Fountain City, Mary (Russ) Andress of Fountain City and Barb Stohr of Glenwood City; three grandchildren, Amy Andress, James Andress and Molly (Jon) Blaser; two precious great-grandchildren, Morgan and Miley Blaser; two brothers, Emmons (Pat) Scheidegger of Redwood City, Calif., and Jerry (Judy) Scheidegger of Fountain City; sister-in-law, Margaret "Fritzie" Scheidegger of Eau Claire; also by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son-in-law, Jim Stohr; and two brothers, Norm and Al Scheidegger.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Fountain City, with Pastor Elroy V. Conradt officiating. Burial will take place this spring, being laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fountain City. A time of visitation and support for Jean's family will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the services.
The staff of Talbot Family Funeral and Cremation Services is honored to serve the Abts family.
