Raised in the towns of Burke and Spokane Falls when Idaho and Washington were not yet U.S. states, but were U.S. territory. Served in U.S.A. Army Co B 37 Machine Gun Batallion, World War I. Ansel was settled into Wallace, Idaho by the 1930's where he took a fancy to a fellow member of the local Scandinavian Fraternity, Dorothy Abrahamson - daughter of Abraham & Clara Ann Abrahamson, born 9 June 1919 in Bowman County, North Dakota. On October 16, 1939, they were married in Spokane.

Ansel and Dorothy's four children: Ann, David, John and Maria earned their diploma's at Wallace High School. The family were members at Bethany Lutheran Church, Osburn, Idaho.
