JULIANNA K. HARRIS
Julianna Kathrina Harris, Hettinger, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 1985 at Five Counties Hospital, Lemmon, SD, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Lastrup, MN, on December 10, 1898, the daughter of John and Anna Schommer. She atttended rural schools and worked at various farm homes in the Lastrup area. She worked as a cook in a boarding house prior to her marriage to Adam Veinovich in 1917. Three children were born to this union, Milan,* Edwin and Lenora. Adam Veinovich passed away in April of 1921. Julia and her two children, Edwin and Lenora, traveled to Hettinger by railroad in 1926. She worked as a housekeeper in South Dakota.
In November, 1926, Julia and Mack Harris were wed in Bison, SD. He was killed in a car accident south of Lemmon in June 1939. Julia lived on the farm with her daughter Lenora until 1969 when they moved to Hettinger, ND. In June, 1983 she broke her hip, an injury that she did not fully recover from the remainder of her life.
She was a very good church member and was very active in church activities. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceeded in death by her parents, a son Milan, who passed away in childhood, three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by one son, Edwin of Prairie City, SD and one daughter Lenora, Hettinger, four grandchildren, Diana Neurohr, Halliday, ND, Linda Peck, Bison, SD; and Ron and Dale Harris, Prairie City, SD, and three great grandchildren, Trace, Brandee and Kyla.
She is also survived by five sisters, Addie Block, Lastrup, MN; Lena Johnson, Little Falls, MN; Gertrude Young, Duluth, MN; Anna Bowman, and Louise Thrasher, Minneapolis, MN; and three brothers, Christ Schommer, Leesburg, FL; John Schommer, Loveland, CO; and Pete Schommer, Hillman, MN; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Requiem Funeral Mass was held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hettinger, Thursday, November 14, 1985, with Father Dignan aas celebrant. Special music was provided by the church choir. Casket bearers were Dick Price, Bob Week, Eillis Peck, Murel Peck, Charles Week and Keith Hanson. All of her friends were honorary Casket Bearers. Interment was in the Hettinger Cemetery with Walby Funeral Chapel, Hettinger in charge of arrangements.
*Julianna's son Milan was the son of Milan Emil Vukson.
