Alice Louise Dowdy Anthony, 91, of Altavista died Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Centra Hospice House of Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Joseph Bernard Anthony. She was born June 1, 1921 in Campbell County, a daughter of the late James Dowdy and Gracie Gibson Dowdy. She was a member of The Baptist Tabernacle of Altavista for more than 46 years. She is survived by two sons, Larry Dale Anthony and his wife Holly of Appomattox and Donald Ray Anthony of Charlotte, NC; one foster daughter, Hardy Dowdy Tucker and her husband Ned of Roanoke; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews and also a special friend and caregiver Juanita Butcher.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Victor, Jessie, Thornton and Horace Dowdy; three sisters, Kathleen Dowdy Anthony, Hawthorne Dowdy, and Helen Dowdy Rice. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012 at The Baptist Tabernacle, Altavista by the Rev. George Knight & Rev. Joey Anthony with interment to follow at Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista. The family would also like to express their love and appreciation to all her faithful caregivers; her church family/friends and to the Centra Hospice for her care during her illness.
