He was a native of Kentwood and had lived in Lake Charles for 50 years. He retired from Coca-Cola, where he was a production manager for 43 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was an active deacon for 41 years. He had also served on the Lay Renewal Team, deacon nominating committee, choir and was a Brotherhood president and a Sunday school teacher. He was an officer for the Carey Association and was a member of the Gideons and the Toast Master Club. He was involved in the prison ministry and the nursing home ministry.
Survivors included his wife, Grace Cutrer Blake of Lake Charles; one son, James D. Blake of Lake Charles; two daughters, Patricia Sue Fontenot of Sulphur and Georgia Ann Brumley of The Woodlands, Texas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
