Betty Grace Smith was born November 16, 1919, in Erwin, Tennessee, a daughter of Patrick and Grace Almes Smith.
Betty graduated from Latrobe Area Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1938. Lt. Bendl was in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II and served three years in England and France (7/5/1943-1/14/1945 at the 95th General Hospital).
Betty married Fred S. Bendl, and they became the parents of a son.
Betty was employed by Latrobe Area Hospital (LAH), most recently in the Audiology department.
Betty was a member of the Holy Family Church, its Rosary Society, and the Latrobe Area Hospital Alumnae Association.
At the age of 53, Betty Bendl, of 204 Gertrude St., Latrobe, died in Latrobe Area Hospital at 8:30 p.m., on December 27, 1972.
Betty was survived by her parents of Derry; her husband; her son, Frederick of Kittanning; one grandson; sisters, Miss Nancy Smith of Miami, Florida, and Miss Eleanor Smith of Derry; a brother, Joseph of Derry; and many friends.
Betty was a warm, friendly, gentle, and helpful woman with an easy laugh and a kind heart. Her sudden and unexpected death left a void in many lives. She is long remembered and missed.
