Builder Of

Structures Dead
Archie W. Axtell, a building contractor at Lewiston from about 1900 to 1924, died at a Kelso hospital Tuesday at the age of 75 [85].
He had been foreman of construction on the present Administration Building at Lewis-Clark Normal School, the Breier Block and Clarkston First Christian Church and had worked on many other buildings designed by James Adams, the late Lewiston architect.
About 1903 he had married Lulu Baskett, of Clarkston, who survives him. He had continued to work after moving to Kelso in 1924 and was employed on the construction of many public buildings there and at Longview. After his retirement, he had established a boat building shop at Kelso and designed and built outboard runabouts, producing more than 50 of them. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.
In addition to his widow he is survived by three sons, Harry of Kalama, Gayle of Kelso and Cedric of Castle Rock; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Tecoy [Axtell, Peterson, Pecoy] of Red Bluff, Calif., and Mrs. Glen Hoag, Oakland, Calif., and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
