The following comes from Clint Joyce through AOL:
"When a boy, early teens, Andrew was apprenticed to a silversmith in Edinborough Scot. The silversmith emigrated to America, (Charleston, SC). Against the wishes of his parents Andrew came with him. Andrew was 15, After Andrew came of age he moved to Cheraw SC and operated a general store. He sued a man for debt before Esquire Freeland of Orange Co.; while at the Esquires home he met his daughter Jane Freeland and fell in love. They were married the latter part of 1776. Adrew Gibson, emigrant died 1823 and is buried at Gibsonville, NC, named for his family (a son).The town has bought land adjoining his burying ground for the town cemetery." Andrew came with no other family to the US. At some point his nephew Alex Melrose, son of his sister Jane, emigrated.

He fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, Guilford City, NC March 15, 1781. He was wounded in the battle. Book C, p. 49, Accounts of US with NC., War of Revolution -- records in the official custody of the St. Dept. of Archives & History at raleigh, NC -- Gibson record approved.
