James Loyal Atkins, son of James and Eliza (Fitzthomas), was born in Toronto. Loyal went to work for Neilsons in their confectionary business. He married Isabella Helm, daughter of Thomas and Isabella, on April 3, 1915, in Toronto. On August 23, 1915, Loyal enlisted for service in the Canadian Over-seas Expeditionary Force. After World War One he returned to his wife and work at Neilsons. The couple had three children, Madeline, Margaret and William. Loyal Atkins died at his Snider Ave. home.
