Birth: Nov. 24, 1887
Death: Jun. 9, 1955

Brewery Owner, Rower, Horseman. Jimmy Cosgrave was born in Toronto. In his youth Jimmy played for the St. Georges team in the Ontario Hockey Association and was Canadian champion in singles sculling (1909). He went into the family brewing business and by 1921 was the president and general manager of Cosgrave Brewery Co. Ltd. During his ownership, the company experienced a fire in 1924 and a dynamite attack in 1934. The latter was thought to be part of a gang-related extortion attempt. The company was absorbed in 1934 by the Brewing Corp. of Canada and Jimmy joined the new ownership as vice-president. With owner E. P. Taylor, Jimmy was co-owner of Cosgrave Stable in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Their highlight had to be the second place showing of Mona Bell in the 1938 King's Plate. Jimmy gradually withdrew from the business and racing to spend time fishing and golfing. James F. Cosgrave died suddenly at the Albany Club, in Toronto, while listening to election results.
