A former teacher at Southern Wells Elementary School, Freida Mary May Alfrey, 91, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Americare Living Center in Hartford City.
A native and lifelong resident of Blackford County, she retired in 1985 from Southern Wells where she was teaching the First Grade class. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge.
She was born Oct. 25, 1915 in Jackson Township to Willard and Mary May (Russell) Herrin.Her marriage on Feb. 8, 1941 in Greensburg was to James "Dale" Alfrey, who preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianna Alfrey and a son, James Alfrey, both of Hartford City; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Hartford City. Calling hours are Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City, and for two hours Friday at the church.
Burial will be in the Hartford City Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the church.
