Sammy's obituary (and poem)
were published in
"The Berrien County Record",
newspaper in Buchanan, MI, on
Oct. 5, 1876, page 3. It reads:
---
Deaths: Died September 12, 1876,
SAMMIE N., infant son of Wm. H. and
Isabel Barnhouse, aged 6 months and
12 days.
----
We ask, can it be
That our dear little Sammy's no more?
They tell us yes, Sammy's with angles
Far away on that beautiful shore.

How sadly we felt
when the coffin was closed:
We knew he had gone from our sight;
But one thought we had
to cherish our minds-
The Lord will do everything right. L.K.
-------------------------------
Note: The "L. K." after this poem,
possibly stands for Lorinda (Dragoo)
Kirkendall, who was Isabel's sister,
and who possibly wrote the poem.
