"Cousin Dorothy" was the person who maintained the family heritage. Her's was the home that everyone gathered at after any gathering or funeral. It was full of love and great food, especially the sweets. She was one of the most Godly people you'd ever want to meet, and her loss is still felt today. The interesting thing is that, as the story goes, she was not a "blood" member of the family, but was taken in by Sarah ("Sadie") and William TILLMAN, Aunt Sadie being my great-grandfather's younger sister, who was otherwise childless. Dorothy's birth family lived nearby, and she grew up knowing them, and also becoming an integral part of their family, as well.
Dorothy was married twice. The first time was to Harry A. SCOTT, Sr. It was to this union that a son--her only child--Harry A. SCOTT, Jr. was born. (Harry would tragically die of head injuries sustained in a single car motor vehicle accident in September, 1976, surely breaking his mother's heart.) She married a second time to Bruce Oliver, and they were married many years until her death in her late '70's. Her obituary reads as follows:
