Robert was the son of John Wilson and his wife Mary Susan Hill Wilson Boyle. Robert's father John died when Robert was just 6 years old, later his mother married David Boyle. Robert married Edith Sofie Tillman and they had four children - Bradley, Doris, Patricia and Colleen.
