Born Sept. 28, 1920, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna Virginia (Deter) Elter.
Mrs. Alther graduated from the former Chambersburg High School in 1938.
She retired from Occupational Services Inc., Chambersburg, and previously wrote commercials for WCHA radio station.
She was a member of the AARP and active with the Franklin County Democratic Party.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fayetteville, where she sang in the choir.
She loved music, and played the piano and organ.
Mrs. Alther is survived by two daughters, Nancy A. Dick of chambersburg and Judith L. Salmon of Olney, Md.; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
