Donnie Marie Ahrend obituary: She loved flowers, bingo and dancing.
Former Pawhuska resident DONNIE MARIE (GRIFFIN) OVERLEY AHREND passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in the White Hall Nursing Center, Crockett, Texas. She was 93 years old.
Mrs. Ahrend was born May 11, 1915 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charlie and Minnie (Morris) Griffin. On May 12, 1933, she married Louis L. Overley in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death November 13, 1980. Donnie had worked in the Pawhuska Garment Factory during World War II, and continued to work there for several years after the War. At the young age of 65, she began working in a part time position for the Pawhuska Eldercare Program, which soon became a full time job. She remained with Eldercare until the age of 75. It was then Donnie met and married Virgil E. Ahrend of Pawhuska on September 17, 1990. He preceded her in death December 30, 2002.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Donnie was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed growing flowers around the front porch of her home in Pawhuska. She also enjoyed playing bingo and dancing. Donnie was a past member of the Osage Indian Baptist Church in Pawhuska. For the past several years, she had resided in Galveston, Texas with her son and daughter-in-law.
Surviving family are: Her son: Don L. Overley and wife, Charlotte, of Galveston, TX; Her grandchildren: Stacey Overley Ocampo and husband, Larry; Tracey Overley Broom and husband, Gary; Darrell Vaughn and wife, LouAnn; Bill Jones and wife, Linda; Her great grandchildren: Allison and Jennifer Vaughn; K.J. and Tyler Stanley; Justin and Kyle Jones; And a host of other family and friends. In addition to her husbands, Donnie was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Minnie Griffin; her daughter, Barbara Sue Jones; three sisters, Dinky Bruno, Dorothy Bullard and Tressie Wimpy; and two brothers, Marvin Griffin and Neely "Curly" Griffin.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, at 10:00 AM in the McCartney's Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rich Kowalczyk will officiate. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
