Frances Marie Keiffer Agnew, 88, of Corvallis passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010. She was surrounded by her husband, two daughters and a son, and attended to by her family of caregivers at Corvallis Manor.
Frances was born on May 7, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. She continued her education at Ohio Wesleyan University, and she then spent time at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Her claim to fame while in New York was singing at Carnegie Hall.
Her professional singing career was put on hold by her marriage to Allen on Sept. 5, 1946. She continued with her love of music by giving oratorio recitals, directing and singing in various church choirs, and teaching voice and piano lessons.
She began her married life sleeping on U.S. Army cots in Death Valley, Calif., as her husband performed geologic mapping of that area. The family grew with the addition of four children while they lived in various places: Alabama, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Indiana and Pullman, Wash. After the children left home, Frances and Allen spent 10 years in the Washington, D.C., area before retiring to Corvallis to be close to their children's families.
Frances is survived by her husband of 64 years, Allen F.; and two daughters; two sons; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families scattered across the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Lulu Keiffer of Illinois; brother Raymond of Illinois; and sister Jeanette Dye of Albany.
