Mr. Allen died suddenly at his home Sunday night of a heart attack.
He began his long public career 28 years ago when he was named night marshal and a year later was elected town marshal. He had held the post of town marshal almost continuously, except for a time when he served in the Marine Corps in World War II. He was serving as town marshal at the time of his death. He also was a Bossier Parish deputy sheriff and manager of the Bailey Mortuary in Plain Dealing. He also held membership in the American Legion, Mason Lodge, Lion's Club, National Sheriff's Assn. and the Louisiana Peace Officers Assn.
Survivors included his wife, Milred B. Allen; two sons, Larry e. Allen of bossier City and Jerry E. Allen of Leesville, La; one sister, Mrs. Eaph Bandy of Plain Dealing; and two brothers, Barney Allen and Dewey Allen, both of Springhill, La; and four grandchildren.
