On January 11, 1861, Alabama seceded from the Union.
On 19 Feb 1861, in Pickens County Alabama,
Corporal K J (Kennerdy or Kennedy) Bailey (Jr)
and his brother L D (Lawrence DeCody) Bailey,
the sons of K W (Kennedy William) Bailey
and Mary Polly Perry enlisted within
Company B, "Lane Guards"
under Captian Thomas C. Lanier.
On 26 Mar 1861, they were sworn into service to the (CSA) Confederate States Army
by Lieutenant F A Sharp for the period of one year at Fort Morgan at Mobile Bay, Baldwin County, Alabama,
into Company B, "Lane Guards" 2nd Regiment, Alabama Infantry..
Later this unit became Company B, 42nd Regiment, Alabama Infantry.
