Trudie Melissa Brackeen Adams was born and lived all her life in the Pleasant Valley community of western Limestone County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Will and Mary Brackeen (who are buried in the Higgins Cemetery of Limestone County). She graduated from Lauderdale County (Rogersville) High School. She was married to Larkin Adams for 50 years. She taught school at Oxford, Pleasant Grove, and Clements. She attended Florence State College (now University of North Alabama) and graduated from Athens College (now Athens State University) in 1961. (She had taught for several years, but did not complete her degree until she was 55.)
She was a life-long member of the Pleasant Valley church of Christ. She and Larkin (Lark) had three daughters--Erma Lee Adams Blakely, Ruth Evelyn Adams Blakely, and Joyce Adams Raley. She was a well-respected person in the community and helped deliver babies as an occasional country midwife in the days when many country people gave birth at home.
