George R. Alexander, 90, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, died Friday, December 7, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness.
George was born September 30, 1911, at Martelle, Jones County, Iowa.
He grew up and graduated from high school at Lansing, Iowa. He served three years in the US Army during peacetime and was a letter carrier for 30 years in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
In 1939 he married Martha Petersen, they had one son John, she died in 1956. In 1957, he married Hazel McIlvain, she died in 1995.
Survivors include his son John, granddaughters Christina, Amanda, and Jaclyn Alexander all of Carleton Place Ontario, Canada, a special niece and best friend Shirley Budreau of Cedar Rapids, who was always there for George and was dedicated to his care, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jack Kendall of the Meth-Wick Community will officiate.
