He married Grace Brokke on May 1, 1936 in Crookston. They lived north of Climax on a farm for eleven years after which they built a new house in 1950 right by the Climax School.
Marcus worked at the Climax School for twenty-seven years as custodian. Grace was head cook at the school for seventeen years and a cook's helper for seventeen years. She also helped Marcus with the custodial work for twenty-four years. They both also spent many hours painting and varnishing the new Climax Lutheran Church when it was built in 1968.
Marcus died in 1973 and Grace died in 2002. While they had no children of their own, they were survived by many nieces and nephews. They are both buried in the Sand Hill Lutheran Church cemetery.
