Susan Star Cardwell Abbott

Star is the daughter of Ernest Ray and Faye Hudson Cardwell of Louisburg. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Wayne Abbott; her daughter, Milli Hendrickson (Dwayne); and granddaughter, Samantha Star Hendrickson of Louisburg. She is also survived by her step-children; Angela Dawn Castro (Pedro), and five step-grandchildren of Youngsville; and by Jeffrey Wayne Abbott (Valarie) of Durham.

Star is also survived by her very special sister, Penny Raye Cardwell Strickland (Al) of Youngsville; baby sister, Elaine Hudson Cardwell Duke of Louisburg; and her special "Lil Bro", Brent Cardwell (Parrish) of Fuquay Varina; as well as many aunts and uncles. Not to be forgotten are her dear nieces, Jonsie Brooke Duke, Charleigh Duke, Alexandria Cardwell, and Hollyn Cardwell. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law include Jack and Janice Abbott (Henderson), Morris Hill (Youngsville), Ronnie and Margaret Abbott (Raleigh), and Billy and Teresa Abbott (Franklinton).

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, C. B. Hudson, Sr. and Mollie Bennett Hudson, and her paternal grandparents, Thomas McGuire and Ethel McGuire. She was also the late great-granddaughter of Charlie and Mamie Wright Hudson as well as Peter Mallette and Florence Catlette Bennett. She was the niece of the late Charlie "Uncle Charlie" B. Hudson, Jr.

Star loved music whether it was singing or playing her guitar, piano, or organ! She starred in many productions under the direction of Charley John Smith at Louisburg College and under the direction of Mark Taylor, Dwight Berry, Walter Hurst, Larry Williams, Betty Willis, and Susan King at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center. For many years, she also served as choir director at Corinth Baptist Church.

Star was a 1972 graduate of Louisburg High School. She also attended Louisburg College where she studied music under the direction of Sarah Foster. Star was the first freshman student there to present a solo recital as well as presenting a recital at Vance Granville Community College.

In her lifetime, she worked for John F. Matthews (Attorney), Winn Dixie, State of NC Emergency Medical Services, Cooper Industries, E. Ray Cardwell Inc., was owner of Starshine Trucking, and the US Census Bureau.

Flowers accepted or memorial gifts may be given to Norris Theatre at Louisburg College,
now under the direction of Walter Hurst, or to the Lakeland Cultural Arts Center in Littleton, NC.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of Faye and Ray Cardwell, 813 Moulton Rd. Louisburg, www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
