Sean Erik Monschau, 39, of Lapeer, formerly of California, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011. He was born December 28, 1971, in Santa Clara, California, son to David and Diane (Mills) Monschau. He married Jessica Sherman, on August 14, 1999, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer. Mr. Monschau was a courier for the Federal Express Company. Sean worked for Northwest Propane in Oxford for over 15 years. He loved his family first and hunting second—Sean was an amazing father and an amazing husband. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Monschau of Lapeer; children, Gavin Monschau of Lapeer, Gabrielle "Ellie" Monschau of Lapeer; mother, Diane Monschau of Attica; father, David Monschau of Lansing; mother and father-in-law, Steve and Monica Sherman of Otter Lake; brothers, Mike Monschau of Washington, Steve (Ann Marie) Monschau of California, Kevin (Angela) Monschau of Davison; sister-in-law, Sarah (Ian) Sherman of Fostoria; brother-in-law, Adam (Cassie) Sherman of Fostoria; good friends, Chuck and Jenn Swank of Montrose and many nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Please; in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 3-8pm at the funeral home. UNIONVILLE, Mich.— A 39-year-old Lapeer man was accidentally shot and killed by his 10-year-old son while duck hunting in a Michigan wildlife area.
The Huron Daily Tribune in Bad Axe reports (http://bit.ly/q14aTE ) Friday that the boy shot Sean Monschau while continually firing a shotgun Thursday morning.
police did not release any more details of the case and say the shooting remains under investigation.
Monschau had taken his son to hunt in the Fish Point State Wildlife Area near Unionville, about 90 miles northwest of Detroit in Tuscola County.
The shooting occurred about 7:45 a.m. Thursday.
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
