Cora Daughtery Aldous was born March 2, 1900, in Flagstaff and died Feb. 21 in Wickenburg Community Hospital. She obtained a teaching certificate in Flagstaff and began a teaching career that lasted 46 years.

Her first position in 1919 was in a one room school in Concho, Apache County, where she taught 76 pupil. The next year she served as a substitute teacher at the old MacDowell Cattle Ranch in Douglas. She taught for a year in the Old Falls School in Oak Creek Canyon. In 1924 she came to Wickenburg where she taught for 42 years, retiring in 1965.

She taught, loved and inspired many hundreds of Wickenburg boys and girls. She began teaching in the Little Red Schoolhouse and taught first, third, fourth and sixth grades over 42 years.

She was dropped for 12 years from the faculty when it was discovered that she had married Newell Aldous on June 20, 1929, in Lordsburg, N. M. Married teachers could not hold a job during the depression.

The Aldous' only son, Jim, was born during this time. He was killed in a airplane accident in 1962.

Mrs. Aldous was a long time member of the Wickenburg First Presbyterian Church. She had taught Sunday school, sung in the choir and was an ordained elder. She was first Worthy Matron of the Hassayampa Chapter of the Order of eastern Star and a Past Grand Esther. She was a charter member of the Las Damas riding club and a member of the Soroptimist Club.

The Aldous' had traveled extensively over many parts of the world. Their travels included the entire North American continent, Europe, British Isles, Japan and Southeast Asia.

Since retiring teaching they had collected and sold antiques and collectibles at their home on the Phoenix highway.

Mrs. Aldous leaves her husband of 54 years and a host of friends and former students.
