CHAMBERSBURG -- Glen O. Acker, 86, a resident of Alterra Inc., Chambersburg, and formerly of 1510 Siloam Road, died at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, in the nursing center.
Born May 14, 1916, in Osterburg, he was the son of the late Clyde B. and Myrtle Mae Mock Acker.
He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, where he was a member of Burton Men's Bible Class.
For 30 years, he worked in the carpentry and construction trades. Later, he was a deputy sheriff in Franklin County, a maintenance supervisor at Wilson College, Chambersburg, and retired as a maintenance supervisor at Southgate Mall, Chambersburg.
During the 1930s, he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps at Bear Valley. He was a member of George Washington Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 143, Chambersburg.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed hunting for wild mushrooms.
His wife, Mabel V. Shields Acker, whom he married Aug. 22, 1936, died Feb. 23, 1997. Also preceding him in death were a brother, Paul Acker; and a sister, Evelyn Acker.
Surviving are a son, Larry G. of Bridgeville, Del.; three granddaughters whom he and his wife raised, Sheree L. Smith of Upper Strasburg, Lori A. Jones of Athens, Ala., and Caroline R. Lensbower of Chambersburg; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles of Morristown, Tenn., Lee of Bedford and Joe of Martinsburg; a sister, Marie MacBride of Altoona; nieces; and nephews.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road, with the Rev. Lester F. Stine officiating. Burial will be in Upper Strasburg United Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service Saturday in the funeral home.
