J. Dale Heath was named the The Illinois State Checker Champion in 1997 after winning the Illinois State Checker Tournament that year in MT. Vernon, IL.

From "The Encyclopedia of Checkers"
by Anthony Bishop:

Dale served as secretary of the American Checker Federation from 1953 until 1956. He later was elected president of the Ameriacn Checker Federation and held the office from 1961 until 1966.

As a promoter of checkers Heath has no superiors and few equals in this most important phase of the game. Almost single-handedly Heath clarified the cloudy world's title situation that had disgraced organized checkers for over a decade.

Working as Director of World Champiomship Affairs, he promoted the Long-Hellamn title match in 1948 and the Hellman-Ryan title match in 1949.

While president of the A.C.F. Heath promoted the Hellamn-Long, Hellman-Case, Hellman-Oldbury world championship matches and three national tournaments. On the international scene he was the driving force behind the earlier international mail matches and also worked to promote competion for the world play title.
