Melvin Dodd Davis, Sr., was born November 18, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Geraldine Davis-Anderson and Willard Dodd. His maternal grandparents were Arque Neal Davis, Sr., Marie E. Davis and Fanny A. Taylor-Davis. His paternal grandparents were James and Louise Dodd of Bonham, Texas.

Melvin accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in West Town. He attended the Oklahoma City Public School and graduated from Douglas High School in 1967. Melvin was gifted with a beautiful voice. Many people though that Melvin sounded like and sang as well as the famed Lou Rawls. While at Douglass High School, he was a member of the Mixed Chorus, under the directorship of Leroy Hicks. In the early Seventies, Melvin also sang in the "Pastors Chorus' at Greater Shiloh and is remembered for leading "Lord Do It" as recorded by the Rev. James Cleveland. In 1968 Melvin married Carolyn Gates. The children of this union are: Melvin Davis of OKC, Maurice Davis of Phoenix, AZ and Alan Davis of OKC. In 1985, Melvin married Karen Gibson Davis. Melvin later married Vanessa Anderson, and to this union were born, Jaleesa Davis and Calvin Davis.

Melvin worked as a warehouseman for the Oklahoma City Public School System for many years. He also acquired an exceptional gift in visual arts, pencil drawing and sketching, to the point of being able to train others in the skill. Melvin made a new and fresh commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, by rededicating his life, and was looking forward to again becoming an active member of the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church family.

The afternoon of December 20th, our beloved Melvin Dodd Davis passed from this life. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving mother, Geraldine Anderson of Oklahoma City, Aunts; Velva Davis of Midwest City, Alva Thomas of Midwest City, Charlene O'Neal of Colorado Springs Colorado, Nova Fowler of Midwest City, Uncle Alfred and Aunt Mary Ann Davis of Dallas, Texas, six children, one stepson, four grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.
